Congratulations to Frank D. Byrne, MD, FACHE, president at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, on being named to the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Frank D. Byrne, MD, FACHE, is president at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison, Wis.
He also serves on the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of 30,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. With comprehensive programs in credentialing, education, career counseling, publications and research, ACHE works toward its goal of being the premier professional society for healthcare leaders by providing exceptional value to its members.
Board certified as an ACHE Fellow, Byrne was the ACHE Regent for Indiana from 2000 to 2004.
Since his arrival in 2004, St. Mary’s has opened $184 million major expansion to the hospital that included an expanded Emergency Department and updated facility for its Cardiac Center. St. Mary’s is also implementing an inpatient electronic health record in May. St. Mary’s was accredited by the Joint Commission as the region’s first Primary Stroke Center and was designated a Thomson 100 Top Hospital for 2006.
Prior to this, Byrne was executive vice president of Parkview Health, Fort Wayne, Ind., from 2002 to 2003. He also served Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind., as president from 1995 to 2002 and medical director from 1994 to 1995. His previous roles included pulmonary/critical care physician, Indiana Regional Medical Consultants PC Fort Wayne, Ind., from 1982 to 1994; medical director, Respiratory Care, St Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Ind. from 1982 to 1994. He has also participated in international medical work in Moldova, and at the Indiana University HIV/AIDS program in Eldoret, Kenya.
In addition to his service to ACHE, he has been a member of the board of the American College of Physician Executives, which will be inducting him as a Distinguished Fellow in April. He also has been on the boards of Dean Health Plan; SSM Health Care of Wisconsin; Fort Wayne Hospital Administrative Council, serving as its chair; Indiana Healthcare Executive Network; Lincare Holdings; Steel Dynamics Inc.; Amerinet Central; and the Indiana Health Industry Forum. He is also a member of the American Medical Association and the American Hospital Association.
Byrne received his doctor in medicine from the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Brooklyn College of Medicine, his master’s degree in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame.
